CLASS STYLES

YIN YANG

Yin and Yang are the Taoist concepts which describe the two relative qualities present in everything. Yin is more internal, passive, cooling and downward. While Yang is more external, dynamic, warming and upward. In Yoga, just like in life, we need both of these qualities to keep us balanced and healthy.

This class begins with a more active Yang section (Vinyasa) that stimulates the muscles and the blood flow, building strength stamina and flexibility. Then the second half of the class is a slower (Yin) practice in which the poses are held for longer, working on the deep, connective tissues (fascia) and the joints in the body

VINYASA

In a vinyasa class, we string postures (asanas) together, moving from one posture to another, seamlessly, using the breath as a guide. These classes often include some breathing exercises (pranayama), a mix of strengthening, mobilising and relaxing postures and meditation.

YIN

Yin is a slow paced practise in which the postures are held for several minutes. This meditative practise targets the fascia (the deep tissues of the body) while increasing mobility. The Yin practice teaches us to stay in the moment, breathe through discomfort and sit with our thoughts.

MINDFULNESS BASED MEDITATION

Mindfulness is the quality of being present and totally engaged with whatever you are doing - free from judgement and aware of your thoughts and feelings without getting caught up in them. Meditation is the practice in which we gain the skill of mindfulness so that we can bring it into our everyday lives.

In the Sunday meditation classes you will be led through a different guided meditation each week. You will learn various techniques for your wellbeing and gain a clear mind and an open heart!
